The wheel is in fact a rotating boat lift built to connect the Forth & Clyde canal with the Union Canal.  It’s well worth a visit to see this engineering marval in action.

The Kelpies  between Falkirk and Grangemouth

Paying homage to the working horses which used to pull barges along Scotland’s canals, these 30 metre high sculptures are a sight to be seen.  It’s possible to walk or cycle, bike hire is available, between the Kelpies and the Falkirk Wheel, for a great day out.
